The Township

A Community of Communities

Wilmot Township covers the western side of Waterloo Region and is made up of 14 communities. About 22,500 people live here. New Hamburg and Baden are the two largest and are home to over 65% of residents, with the rest spread across smaller villages and hamlets like New Dundee, Petersburg, St. Agatha, and Haysville. The Nith River runs through the township, and the historic downtowns give it a character quite different from the cities. New Hamburg's downtown is a designated Heritage Conservation District, and local landmarks include the largest operating waterwheel in North America, in New Hamburg, and Castle Kilbride in Baden. Housing is varied. Newer subdivision homes and freehold townhomes sit alongside bungalows near the river, estate homes, and rural properties with acreage. Highway 7/8 is close, and Grand River Transit buses serve Baden and New Hamburg, so Kitchener-Waterloo and Stratford are both within reach.
